Intimate waxing
How long does the hair need to be?
To get the best results, your hair needs to be at least 1cm long. If you're having intimate waxing, the longer the hair, the more painful it will be, so you can trim the hair before your appointment or we can clipper it for you. After the first wax, as long as you do not shave between services, you'll find the second wax to be a lot more comfortable. This is because your hair will grow back finer and sparser. Typically, the 'cactus' feel you have with shaving will not exist with waxing, making it easier to grow out between waxes.
How long will the results last and how often should I be waxed?
Everyone's different and all areas have different re-growth speeds. With the intimate area, in most cases, you will see minimal re-growth during the first 3 weeks, with a noticeable increase after that. Because of the way hair grows, its recommend that you wax every 4 weeks for the first 4 appointments, to get on a growth cycle that gives the best results. You'll then find that you'll be able to leave longer gaps between your appointments. Continued waxing encourages slower, softer, sparser re-growth. But keep in mind that hair growth is usually quicker in the summer months as heat stimulates hair growth. Please do not shave the area between your appointments as this messes with the natural growth cycle, and you will be left with stubble.
Does it hurt?
Many customers say that the sensation is similar to being slapped with a plastic ruler: a momentary ouch that quickly fades. Its worth remembering that The Hive Waxing specialize in hair removal and we know a few tricks of the trade to make sure it is as pain free as possible. Most clients agree that the discomfort is nowhere near as bad as they anticipated and it also gets easier with every subsequent appointment.
Will it feel uncomfortable afterwards?
Slight soreness, small bumps and redness are common temporary reactions, particularly if this is your first wax. These should subside within a few hours, and many people find that regular waxing results in less irritation.
I got waxed once and came up in little white spots. Why was this?
These little spots can be experienced by everyone but men are more prone to them as they have more greasy skin then women. After waxing the pores are open making it prone to infection. It is important to keep the skin clean therefore eliminating these spots from appearing. There are many things that can be done to keep the area free from infection. We recommend using an after wax gel which has anti-bacterial properties, which can be purchased from us. It should be applied to the area for at least the first 72 hours. You can also add a cup of Dead Sea salts into the bath water which also helps fight off infection. We also recommend that you wear clean and loose clothing after being waxed and avoid clothing that will rub excessively.
Is there anything I should do to prepare for waxing and to be comfortable?
Yes. There are a few things you can do. Please take a shower before your appointment and, if possible gently exfoliate the area a few days beforehand to remove any dead skin cells and lift the hair. Some find it helps to take ibuprofen at least 20 minutes before your waxing service, as long as this does not contradict with what their doctor has told them. We suggest applying a topical anesthetic cream to the area to be waxed, 30-45 minutes before the treatment, which can be purchased from your therapist. Please ask for details. If you are a female client, schedule your waxing service the first two weeks after your cycle. Your sensitivity level is a lot less during this time. Avoid caffeine, stress and alcohol as these can stimulate, making you more sensitive and increases the redness after waxing. Pregnancy also increases sensitivity.
Why get waxed?
Personal reasons for waxing are as many and diverse as our customers, but here are a few benefits that customers, both male and female, have shared with us:
Being hair-free feels cleaner and more hygienic
Reduces body odour, particularly in summer
Sports related benefits for swimmers, athletes and cyclists
Improves appearance and enhances muscle definition
Increased self-confidence
Partner prefers the smooth look
Waxing Intimate areas heightens sensitivity.
Unlike shaving and hair removal creams, waxing removes the hair by the root. This means it takes longer to grow back and re-growth is noticeably softer and sparser with no itchy stubble.
Are there any conditions that will prevent me from getting waxed?
Contagious skin conditions will prevent us from waxing the affected area until the condition has completely cleared. If you are using skin care products that contain salicylic acid, glycolic acid or alpha hydroxyl acids of any kind, these can cause the skin to lift while waxing. Another area of caution is aggressive exfoliation of the skin, such as microdermabrasion or chemical peels. Prescription medications such as antibiotics, Acutane, or topical ointments such as Retin-A or Renova can cause the skin to thin and lift while being waxed. Other products to keep in mind are Strivectin, Proactiv, Avita and Avage. Clients taking Roaccutane must wait 6 months after finishing their medication before receiving a waxing treatment. We are also unable to remove hair from skin that is sunburn, chafed or broken, or skin that has been treated with steroid cream within the last 3 months. Keep in mind that it's difficult to predict how skin will react, no matter how many precautions are taken.
Intimate waxing
If you're having Intimate Waxing, you'll need to get naked from the waist down to get a perfect wax, so you need to leave your modesty at the door. We aim to make all our customers feel as comfortable as possible, and understand that you may be feeling nervous. Some clients experience temporary physical arousal in response to the manipulation of their genitals & this is nothing to worry about and usually subsides fairly rapidly. Customers are advised, however, that inappropriate behavior will not be tolerated.
